1 First i will make 5 copies of the origional clip (so i can have 5 variations)
(Clips ready for Variation)
2 Now i will start to make variations of clips (Warp,Loop,Transpose, alter BPM etc..)
(Variation 1)
In variation 1 i have looped just a certain part of the clip and slowed down the BPM
(Variation 2)
In variation 2 i have looped the full clip, added Markers so that the loop plays in time and speeded up the BPM
(Variation 3)
In variation 3 i have left the BPM at the origional tempo and changed the Transpose to make the Pitch of the clip sound higher than the origional

Extracted Audio1 First i will extract audio from a CD using Sony Soundforge
This will extract the music into Waveform
2 Now i will find the extracted audio in the designated folder and load it into Ableton
(Audio extracted in soundforge)

(audio clip in Ableton) Extracted audio loaded into Ableton
3 Now i have the audio in Ableton(as a waveform) i can set the BPM(beats per minute) and the Metronome to play so that i can get the Extracted audio to play in time with the Metronome
Metronome and BPM
4 To get the audio to play in time with the Metronome i needed to add Markers to the Waveform so that the audio is playing from one marker to the other in time with the Metronome
Markers
5 Once i have set the Markers and made sure that the Extracted audio is playing in time with the Metronome then i can start to manipulate the sound, and the way the sound is played by using theWarp or Reverse functions
(Warp and Reverse functions)
6 Here is how i will use only part of the Audio and edit the Audio so that is has the required aspect i need for the track
Edited Audio
7 Here is an example of different techniques you can use on your edited sample to alter the sound and how the sample is played
(Different funtions for sound and play of sample)
8 In this example i have used the warp feature to alter how the sample is played.
I have made it so that the sample is being played at slower the speed, and also change the Transpose and volume of the sound to make the audio sound deeper than the original Audio

File browser
Allows you to look for files on your hard drive and organise your Clips, Sets and Projects
Session View
A unique part of Ableton that allows you to “jam” with musical instruments, as well as set volume levels, effrect levels, panning etc
Clip View
This allows you to change individual settings of a clip e.g.(pitch, volume, looping)
Info View
Allows you to hover over any part of the screen with the cursor to see what it does
Scene
This is a set of Clips that are arranged horizontaly on the same line in Session View so that they can be played at the same time
Clip
This is the main element of building a set in Ableton
Representend as audio or MIDI, (can be anything from a single drum beat to a whole song)

I dragged the Impulse from the file browser and dropped it in a free space in the clip view.
Then i chose the sample i required and drag and dropped the sample into a clear slot in the Impulse.
By dragging the sample into a slot on the Impulse it made the sample available to play on assigned keys on the MIDI keyboard.
Now i can record and play the sample on the MIDI keyboard in time with other clips or Metronome to create my Drum pattern

1 I added the appropriate effects, crops, warps etc to my clips so they are ready to be used for scenes in my session.
2 I fitted clips together into the session view so that they would sound good and work good when played together.
3 I arranged the scenes so that they can be swithed from one to anoyher and have a good connection between them.

I have recorded, quantised and edited Midi clips using an attached MIDI contro;ler keyboard
I chose the drum sample i wanted and loaded it into Impulse ready to record and make my Drum loop
I played the Metronome and played the drum sample in time and made my Drum loop
After this i Quantised the loop to make sure that all the beats fitted in place with the rest of the clips
Some of the notes in the loop i feel need lenthening which i did by editing the sample

dsc00166.jpgMy name is David Boocock
I am a DJ, Producer, Song writer and Performing artist
My influences are electronic and uptempo beats, with my style being Hip Hop and Dancehall
Overall idea for project
I want to create a live DJ set that will be uplifting, entertaining and have a bouncy vibe.
I will also be using effects and crossfaders to achieve a spaced mix of samples and instruments
Project goals
1. To create my own loops that will mix nicely together
2. To use samples and effects in a arrangement that will keep a constant uplift to the music
3. Chop up the clips with faders to give a live DJ set feel to the performance
4. Have all loops and samples arranged and assigned in a good order ready for the performance
Preperation
I will need all samples cropped or warped and arranged with the loops organised in a way ready for live set
Other project ideas
Have the effects assigned to the dials on the MIDI keyboard so i can easily alter them through the live set
Area of Expertise
The key area that i will be studying in depth for my project is performing the live set using the dials and crossfaders to make my performance seem more like a DJ set rather than just one track being alternated with different variations
